I went to Tesco this evening to grab a few bits and pieces that I needed. It wasn’t a weekly big shop, just one of those top up shops you need for fresh stuff like milk and vegetables.I don’t like supermarkets at the best of times but hey our choice is limited these days especially on the Isle of Man due to the sheer power and influence they have over farmers and suppliers. I do where possible try and buy from local butchers and suppliers, but without making excuses it isnt always possible! After rushing around the store I filled my trolley (you always do) and headed for the checkout where the very pleasant check out girl asked if I had a club card, scanned my items and totalled up the bill. As this was an uncalled for shop I wasnt organised and so had to use the plastic bags that are always supplied at the end of the checkout. What really wound me up was the fact that when some bananas I purchased (wrapped in plastic I might add) didn’t have a barcode on them, the supervisor headed off to find the price and during this time the checkout girl said, and I quote, ‘ you do realise you can get double your points if you brought in your own plastic bags and didnt use the ones provided.I said, ‘yes I realise that’ fuming inside! Not at the checkout out girl, just at the people who run Tesco!I am sorry Tesco, but do not fuckin patronise me and make out that its me that ruining the planet and not you! Your the twats that wrap everything up in packaging totally unnecessarily and then fly it all over the fucking planet before it lands back in the store two miles from where it originated! How Tesco have the cheek to tell me its double points for recycled plastic bags is beyond words! Dont tell me to try and change my habits when you should be changing yours. So pull your finger out and do something with meaning and not some shitty double points promotion to try and makes us as consumers feel guilty about the environment! And dont give that bullshit about ‘every little helps!’ Do something major!
Tesco’s – you patronising t**ts!

FOR GODS SAKE!!!!!
Its hard enough to work here all day long without customers giving us grief for offering a service that most customers prefer. Hang on a min we are offering u extra clubcard points its not as if we have a gun to ur head when u pick up a bag is it?????. Do you realise how busy this shop gets?? Not only do we offer green points we offer a bag drop off point and we will reuse or recycle the bags that you use.
Rather than complaining that a customer assistant offered you help and advice how about taking time out to think about how pissed off that member of staff must get asking the same bloody question to every other ungrateful customer who comes by her checkout day in day out!!!
Tesco support the manx community and we do infact stock a very large selection of manx products in the store. So give us a break!!!
Perhaps, for a second, you think that we are told to promote such a scheme, and that the girl, who sounds like an excellent customer assistant was trying to be helpful.
So, why don’t you get off your high horse and think about how much the lovely CA didn’t want to serve you, you arrogant sod.
oh my fuckin god
tesco is a terible place to shop and an even worse place to work, the managers dont seem to give a crap about their staff and the customers make it even worse, yes of course the staff are patronising they work at tesco! what do you expect.
tesco shit, me good.
I work at a Tesco express and and its Twats like you complaing about the staff who are just doing their job that makes our working day even more diffucult!
we HAVE TO ASK IF YOU WILL BE REUSING A CARRIER BAG & INFORM YOU THAT YOU GET AN EXTRA POINT FOR DOING SO
We HAVE TO say Hello to every single customer and Smile even tho we mostly do not get a Hello back
We HAVE to say Goodbye and we HAVE to ask for a Club card..imagine having to say all this to every single customer every single day!
So Mr Twat…just shop elsewhere..please!
I see your point about Tesco actually taking responsibility for their packaging but as long as it suits their pockets they’re not going to are they? I suggest we adopt the same methods as shoppers in Germany, where all extraneous packaging is left at the checkout. If we all did that supermarkets might stop over-packaging everything.
Its great to see how everyone is so passionate abut this subject, good or bad I like to receive the feedback.
Thanks everyone
i worked at tesco for 3years and it has depresses me terribly and it is such a greed driven place based on lies with no health and safety other than verbal promises
I also worked at TESCO for 10 years and seen many changes. It was a nice place to work and bearable. Then 4 years before quitting, things at a moderate pace began to spiral downwards. It began on cutbacks on staff. Putting more pressure on excising staff and managers. Stock levels increased in the warehouse putting more strain on the excisting staff and managers. Staff atitudes worsened toward managers who were loading more of there job discription onto them, plus that member of staff had there own job to do as well. Staff felt imtimidated by thair Section Managers and felt scared to speak out. Staff then began to back stab each other more and more. This affected the customers who shop in TESCO. As things worsened, more customers became aggressive toward the General Assistants who were only trying to please the customers. The management often refused to come to the shop floor and resolved the needs of the customers. The relationsip with GA’a and Managers drifted further and further apart. The Management took out there frustrated ego on the staff and the customers did the same when the management were not around. Staff really had nowhere to turn too for some help, apart from the Human Resourse. Human resourse staff were also stretched and we had one woman who covered 6 stores in a large area, off course she was not around to sort out your problems at the time. Things worsened still when mass migrants entered the UK. There languages were impossible for us to understand making our jobs harder still, resourses were criticle then before the influx of mass migration. Then mangers took on those people regardless if they could do the job or not as they had an equal opportunties policy to fill. Something of interest in a court of law relating to staff disclipine. Staff often have to go though painful wecome back meetings after they had time off ill. The managemant of TESCO were not sympathetic and used there ego to make the member of staff feel very guilty for having a unavoidable illness. The investigation meeting would go like this, a manager would ask questions, a manager to take down the questions and answers from the staff, plus a Union Representitive, if need be. There used to be a virdict, sometimes it was a verbal or written warning. So customers, if you feel the need to attack the staff who work for TESCO, please appriciate the situation and see the angle I am coming from. We endure unruly health and safety, value wages, mean benefits and lack of counciling communication. If you hate TESCO like I do, then shop somewhere else!
Great comment Mark. I am not really aiming my comment at the checkout staff or those at the coal face, but more at the senior decision makers of the company. Thanks for your feedback.
I work at Tesco and have done for just over a year. I work on Nightshift and do I enjoy my work? No I do not. A lot of people that work on day shift in tesco do not know how much work the nightshift have to do. The Tesco I work in isn’t open 24 hours we shut at 10. So we only fill shelves. Saying that it’s not really ONLY becaused we are always under staffed because tesco do not hire enough people, because that would cost far too much for a multi billion pound company and the main Tesco directors wouldn’t get as big a bonus at the end of the year. Nightshift staff do not get steel toe caps in our tesco for some strange reason. Now I don’t know about you guys but I think if a cage full of juice went over your foot it would break. I’m also sure that it is a health and safety issue to pull a pallet of beer or juice without steal toe caps. But they say we do not need steal. Another problem is there wage slips, I have spoken to everyone on nightshift and none of them understand the wage slips its all night premium 1, night premium 2 and so on, I have come to the conclusion that the reason they do this is so you can’t tell if they have under payed you at the end of the month. Not a good place to work at all.
Its funny this was the first link to come up when i typed in Tesco are twats into google, so i read the comments and have to say that…….
…….Mark you are absolutely spot on in your observations, even 21 months later. Although i have you beat in terms of service to the arrogant bastard retailers, 19 years and still going, i must be mental to stay with them that long but i do work in the bakery throughout the night which is easier, trust me on that. I never get to see my manager which is a bloody big weight off mine and two of the other lads shoulders.
And Ryan you do need steel toe caps bro, we have to wheel in pallets of flour, deal with lots of heavy bread tins and we all have safety shoes, so speak to your union rep.
And i haven’t forgotten about you nickop, you are so right Tesco policy is bullshit, well to me anyway. Always say Hello and Share a Smile, fuck that. Its like when they always ask you would you like help packing even though you have already started it yourself. IF I WANT SOMETHING I WILL ASK FOR IT not the other way round. I bet all you wanted was for that poor girl just to keep quiet instead of trying to pass the time with some bollocks that Tesco has trained her to say, am i right.
And to the Mystery Tesco employees, if you were trained better then you would have realised that not all customers want the inane banter that our company forces on the masses who shop there. So recognise the ones who do and the ones who dont, then realise that the management are the main problem not the customers since they do pay our wages, so by telling them to shop elsewhere means you could be out of a job and claiming your dole money again.
I only shop at Tesco cos it is just marginally better than Shopshite. It’s a fuckin joke on the Isle of Man that we have to pay over the odds for everything………………..every little helps………..my arse it does. Tesco is a nightmare to shop in and the delivery service is diabolical. Most of the time when you book a slot, you can’t have it but you could get lucky and get one 8 days later. This means you miss a lot of the promotions and things. I can’t go myself often cos of a disability so home delivery seemed like a good idea. It’s bloody hard work waiting 8 days for your utterly butterly or whatever.
Tescos in general especially for checkout operators is SO SO STRESSFUL! The amount of work you have to manage and get no reward and appreciate really sucks and to top it off the retarded customers have nothing better to do except complain in regards to poor service. Well if you don’t like it, then please do us, the workers a favour and shop else where!!
What surprises me more, is the fact that no single group has come forward to raise the concern of the workers particularly for checkout operators who work alot more harder than other departments and yet get paid disgustingly the same. Why is it Tesco highlight that it’s the market leading payer but the reality is, the workers have to work ten times more to get that!! Thank God i graduate this Summer, cannot wait to leave Tesco’s and get away from the dumb managers they employ!
Tesco’s should be called ‘STRESSCO’S’ for making the poor checkout operator work immensely hard and in return giving them peanuts and NO REWARDS!!!
WORSE PLACE TO WORK, THINK BEFORE YOU APPLY!
i work with tesco and i hate it like shit. stupid and greedy managers working out staff to earn free shares as compensation from the strategic management. they dont care about the junior staff if they are happy or not. u did get forced to do stuff and threathened. its a sad place to work. especially deli dept. its a no go area.
all i can say is tesco is sh…….t all round.
someone got a career break in my store and was not allowed back by his check out manager. he was asked to go and look for another store. jealousy. especially now that managers are now turning it to family business. ull find a whole family working in tesco. father, mather, brother, sister and even cousin in same store. its sh………t.
i work at tesco have done for quite a number of years wondering what the hell iam doing pushing dot com trollys every day customers calling us all names but cant say anything back just been told we have to now work from 4am instead of 6am till 12 this is nither day or night guess what we have no choice like it or lump it .lose hour take pay cut or leave so much for family vaues can anybody out there give me an honist answer can they make you change from a 6till2 shift to a 4 till 12 shift it must be wrong so much for their every little helps
ive got some info that will shake tesco to its core and make sure every shop of tescos has to close down i am writing to David Cameron about it and trust me when he sees it each tesco store will close within 24 hours ive had enough of them
